Garmin Approach Golf GPS – Why They Dominate the Market

There are two models of the Garmin Approach golf GPS: the Garmin Approach G3 and the Garmin Approach G5. These units are one of the most popular golf GPS units on the market today. The Garmin Approach offers a robust range of special Garmin golf GPS features and gives users access to pre-loaded and free downloaded courses in the US and Canada. The Garmin Approach golf GPS units are ready to use. You simply power them up with 2 AA batteries and you’ve got everything you need for your game.

If you’re unsure about the Garmin Approach golf GPS or confused over which version to get, here’s a helpful guide.

Garmin Approach Golf GPS Review

Common Features

Both the G3 and G5 are slim and lightweight. However, their rugged and durable bodies are designed to withstand any kind of golfing condition; in fact, they can be used in rain or shine. However, the attractive, sleek look of the Garmin Approach golf GPS models aren’t the only features you’ll enjoy.

The Garmin Approach golf GPS system is highly capable. It tracks putts per round, greens hit, fairways hit, and so on. It also calculates precise distances to hazards and bunkers with just a tap with its “Touch-Targeting” technology. The Garmin Approach golf GPS units also view detailed imagery of course trees, calculate exact shot distances, and keep your scores on a digital scorecard.

The Garmin Approach golf GPS is very affordable and the initial cost of the unit is the only fee you will incur as there is no monthly fee with this particular GPS, a feature that users love. All maps not yet pre-loaded into the Garmin Approach can be easily downloaded via Garmin’s website for free.

The G3

The Garmin Approach golf GPS G3 comes with more than 13000 course maps all over the US and Canada, with timely updates still streaming in. The G3 is waterproof so you can concentrate on your game and don’t have to worry about your gadget. This is smaller and lighter than the G5, which makes it easier to carry around for those who prefer to walk the course.

The G5

The Garmin Approach golf GPS G5 is larger but sports the same rugged and solid look and feel of the G3. Similar to the G3, it is also a touchscreen. The extremely attractive look alone sets it apart from competitors; it sort of reminds you of a game console or a smartphone.

The G5 is often pitted against the Skycaddie SG5 because their features are similar. In looks, the Garmin Approach golf GPS is clearly ahead with its sleek appearance and touchscreen. In performance, both units provide accurate golf guides and readings. The features of these units are pretty much the same, though the Skycaddie is more affordable. The better style of the G5 could explain this difference and it may also explain why the both Garmin Approach units are more popular. It is important to note, for those who may be considering the Skycaddie, that their customer service is known to be horrific!

Minor drawbacks
Some feel that the screen is difficult to see, particularly in bright light. I suppose that goes along with the sleek look. If you want a larger screen, check out the golf GPS Garmin Nuvi with its 4.3 inch widescreen.
As well, some users do not prefer the touchscreen. If you don’t like the idea of a touchscreen and feel that you need something that looks sturdier, you might want to consider the Garmin Golf Logic GPS.

Conclusion

Overall, the Garmin Approach golf GPS is a great buy. The sleek look and simple touchscreen, along with the latest, advanced technonlogy, makes this golf GPS unit a great buy for the pro golfer or for those just beginning to golf. Click here to get the best price on the Garmin Approach golf GPS.

Garmin Approach G5

Garmin Approach G5 GPS-Enabled Golf Handheld

The Garmin Approach G5 might easily be the answer to all your golfing woes. If you’ve been contemplating buying a rangefinder or a golf GPS, then you certainly want to consider the Approach G5. Shipped to you already pre-loaded with thousands of courses, the Garmin Approach G5 has a ton of great features, not the least of which is its ability to use high-sensitivity GPS technology to measure individual shot distances, and also keep track of yardage to fairways, hazards, and greens.

The big, 3” touchscreen is probably one of the features of the Garmin Approach G5, which most recommends it to golfers. You can touch the screen anywhere to find out real distances from where you are to the place you touches. The screen is big enough so you can get a real view of the course you’re playing and also you can adjust the screen so you can see it in bright sunlight.

You can see exactly where you are in the Approach’s screen in living color detail. What’s so great about this is the Approach’s high sensitivity GPS receiver can pinpoint right where you are on the course, so you can virtually eliminate all guesswork from your game. You can plan your shots, and even look like a pro on courses you’ve never played on before. (Well, if not a pro, then at least you won’t look like you just picked up a golf club.)

Once you get close to the green, you can touch the pin on your Approach’s screen and drag it to the position you think the hole actually is. This way, as you get closer you can get even more reliable and accurate readouts of distances to the pin.

Not only does the Garmin Approach G5 do all of this, but it has a ton of other really handy features. For instance it can keep score for up to four players. It can also remember scores. If you play a course often, you can chart your progress as you master the game.

Although the Garmin Approach G5 comes with thousands of courses already in the device, Garmin is rapidly adding more courses. When you buy the Approach, it comes with a bag clip and a USB cable, along with a quick start manual.

The Approach is not inexpensive. As of the writing of this article, it’s slightly less than $400, right about the same price as its major competitor, the Callaway uPro Golf GPS. If golfing is your thing, however, an extra $400 really is not that much. Especially when you compare the Approach to a new set of clubs, it seems reasonably priced.
