Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit

Authors Review:

Take a look at the Sonocaddie V100, if you’re looking for a golf GPS that’s not going to break the bank, but which will give you the information you need. The Sonocaddie V100 might look like a budget golf GPS, but it’s really not. Alright, alright! It doesn’t have the fancy graphics of a Callaway uPro or a Garmin Approach. But it still probably has all the technology you need, if you don’t need to actually “see” the course ahead of you as you play.

Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit Price

After all, it’s the graphics that separates the $350 to $400 models from the $150 to $250 models. And the Sonocaddie V100 can do everything…except the fancy graphics.

It can show you the distance to the green. It can also show you distances to various way points that you input, yourself. It can tell you the distance of your last shot, and also has personalized target setting.

That’s on the plus side. On the minus size, the Sonocaddie V100, is somewhat of what I like to call a clunker. By that I mean, it’s a little bigger and heavier than some of the newer, sleeker golf GPS devices. Now, it’s not big and it’s not heavy, just a little less sleek than some of the other more expensive models.

There’s something to be said for being bigger, though! Bigger means more real estate for the screen, and after all, that’s what you want, isn’t it? As far as portability, I clip my golf GPS to my golf bag, but still I think that even if you carry the Sonocaddie V100 in your pocket, you’re not going to be hampered by its presence.

Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit Two Things to Remember

There are two more things that the Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit has going for it. It’s really, really easy to use. You don’t have to “learn” how to use it. The user interface is awesome! You just turn it on and basically start playing. I like that, since I hate reading instruction manuels! Also, instead of paying an annual fee, you only have to pay a once-in-a-lifetime fee of about $30, then you can download whatever course you want. Since I’m sort of a penny pincher, I like that also about the Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit.

All in all, if you’re looking for an entry level golf GPS, the Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit should easily make its way onto your short list. It’s not as sophisticated as some of it’s newer brothers and sisters, but it’s so doggone easy to use! Having said that, in this price range, I would probably go for the equally functional, but oh so much smaller iGolf Neo. You decide! You wont’ go wrong with the Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit, however.

The Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is such a sturdy, durable piece of equipment built to last for years so you have plenty of time to enjoy playing on thousands of varied golf courses for a mere, affordable $29.95 membership fee. You even get a bonus – the first five courses you download are yours for free!

Versatile Functionality

You can glean from almost all Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS Reviews that the most lovable aspect of Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS unit is its capability to provide you with an all-inclusive, wide-ranging full color 3-D course details and mapping. The overhead map of the hole is fantastic, giving you a comprehensive perspective on how to maneuver the hole.

You can alternately rotate through three views of the hole:

  1. You can get a complete view of the green
  2. The overhead map that shows the entire shape of hole
  3. The informational outlook of the hole displayed on the “target view”, including all obstacles and hazards together with their relative positions on the course.

Custom Mapping

Another indication of the versatility of Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is the capability it provides to enable custom mapping of your targets. There are four available pre-mapped targets already provided by Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS on the target view. However, you can customize your own target in an instant by marking additional targets while playing on the course. Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS anticipated this need and provided a simple interface to add and automatically save custom targets on any hole. Unless you edit or delete the data on purpose, your customized mapping is retained and stored on the device. This is a great feature for when you are so focused on the game and forget to hit “Save” to record the mapped points during the round.

Accurate

The Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is well known for its incredible accuracy.. This user-friendly golf GPS device provides exact distance calculations and information as it shows your position on the fairway. The Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS personalized course information and matches the precise real time course layout of every hole and green. This is indicative of how accurate the readings are, as established by the number of satellites being picked out at any given time. This is a feature that is exclusive to Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS and what makes it so accurate.

Digital Scorecard

The digital scorecard is significant feature for golfers who want to make improvements to their game while keeping a record of the game development for later viewing and analysis. Here are some vital points of the fabulous features of the Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS:

Score and Statistics Analysis Using Digital Scorecard

The Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS features a digital scorecard and game analysis function, right at the tips of your finger tips. This feature allows you to digitally follow the trend of your play on each round, while also performing game analysis anchored on pre-determined data points, once the round is over and done. Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is capable of storing up to 100 rounds, and you can actually compare and analyze how you fared on each round.

There are two available scoring and statistics modes that Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS employs:

  1. Normal Mode shows only the par and your score.
  2. Pro Mode shows putts that you inputted, any fairways hit, and whether you have stumbled on any bunkers around the green.

The Pro mode usually shows the analysis represented by an assortment of statistics, apart from the average putts per hole, which you can normally view/read in percentage form. The analysis of the Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is absolutely thorough and very meticulous, demonstrating yet another unique and exclusive feature. At the moment though, not all mapped courses have available score cards, something that hopefully can be improved in the next upgrade.

Shot Tracking Capability

The Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS has the astonishing capacity to track and measure the distance of every shot in a round and twine them together for review later. The unique “auto track” records the path that you walk while playing the round. You can view the path on every hole so you can see where your shots went wrong. The Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS “shot track” feature shows you exactly where each shot is located during the round. These two features combined can help you analyze which iron/wood to use or how much drive/force to put in the next time.

Personalized Course Mapping/Editing

The Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is designed to download all known facets of golf courses for the most part. However, the problem is that golf courses are not static as they constantly undergo changes. This is when the mapping and editing functions of Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS come in handy. Whatever changes you want to make – either to shorten a tee, fill in a bunker, or even eliminate a tree obstruction, the Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS allows you to instantly map, edit and save any change detected and observed on the fairways.

Other Beneficial Features

The valuable features of the Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS do not stop there. Here are a few more features of this incredibly powerful golf GPS unit:

  • Classy and Trendy Look. While other units, such as the Skycaddie SG5 are a bit bulky, the sleek, compact size and weight of the Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is a feature that many golfers appreciate. You can easily clip it on your belt with the golf clip included in the package.
  • It’s waterproof. While it doesn’t actually mean you can dip it in the water, you get the edge among your golf buddies when it starts to rain and everyone scrambles to put away their golf GPS. You can breathe easy and not worry because the Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS can get a little wet without any detrimental effects on its performance.
  • Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS allows you to set your own preferences. There are button combinations that allow you to adjust a selection of preferences, from color scheme to the level of brightness to backlight setting.

Also included in the package are the rechargeable battery with AC charger adapter, miniature USB cable, a carry pouch and the User’s Manual.
  • And finally, the cost for value you get when you purchase the Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is, beyond doubt, fair and reasonable. It’s a little steep at $399.95; but compared to other high-priced GPS systems, Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is still one of the most feature-laden GPS devices. The fact that it has the lowest 3-year total cost of ownership is quite compelling.

Sonocaddie v300 Golf GPS is like a sharp-eyed personal caddie that’s always at hand to assist you in locating your accurate range. Nothing compares to the value of a personal GPS in helping to improve your game. If you’ve been searching for that perfect golf GPS aid, you can end your search now.
