Sonocaddie V100 might look like a budget golf GPS, but it’s really not. Alright, alright! It doesn’t have the fancy graphics of a Callaway uPro or a Garmin Approach. But it still probably has all the technology you need, if you don’t need to actually “see” the course ahead of you as you play.

Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit Price

After all, it’s the graphics that separates the $350 to $400 models from the $150 to $250 models. And the Sonocaddie V100 can do everything…except the fancy graphics.

It can show you the distance to the green. It can also show you distances to various way points that you input, yourself. It can tell you the distance of your last shot, and also has personalized target setting.

That’s on the plus side. On the minus size, the Sonocaddie V100, is somewhat of what I like to call a clunker. By that I mean, it’s a little bigger and heavier than some of the newer, sleeker golf GPS devices. Now, it’s not big and it’s not heavy, just a little less sleek than some of the other more expensive models.

There’s something to be said for being bigger, though! Bigger means more real estate for the screen, and after all, that’s what you want, isn’t it? As far as portability, I clip my golf GPS to my golf bag, but still I think that even if you carry the Sonocaddie V100 in your pocket, you’re not going to be hampered by its presence.

Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit Two Things to Remember

There are two more things that the Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit has going for it. It’s really, really easy to use. You don’t have to “learn” how to use it. The user interface is awesome! You just turn it on and basically start playing. I like that, since I hate reading instruction manuels! Also, instead of paying an annual fee, you only have to pay a once-in-a-lifetime fee of about $30, then you can download whatever course you want. Since I’m sort of a penny pincher, I like that also about the Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit.

All in all, if you’re looking for an entry level golf GPS, the Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit should easily make its way onto your short list. It’s not as sophisticated as some of it’s newer brothers and sisters, but it’s so doggone easy to use! Having said that, in this price range, I would probably go for the equally functional, but oh so much smaller iGolf Neo. You decide! You wont’ go wrong with the Sonocaddie V100 GPS Unit, however.

G5 or a Callaway uPro, but it can still get the job done very well. The difference between the iGolf and the Garmin Approach and the Callaway uPro is the lack of graphics. Both the Garmin and Callaway have excellent graphics, bird’s eye views of the course and the green, for instance. The iGolf Neo Pocketsize Golf GPS lacks this, but it still gives you the very accurate information you need to plan your club selection and lower your score.

Really, it’s the distances you’re after with Golf GPS devices. Other than the “cool” factor (which is quite high! :) ), what a golf GPS does is accurately calculate where you are via the Global Positioning System and use that information to calculate distances to the various parts of the green and various hazards. The iGolf Neo Pocketsize Golf GPS can do all of this, very accurately. It can tell you the distance from wherever you happen to be to the front, center, and back of the green. It can also tell you locations of various hazards. You can input information into it about your favorite golf course as you play, and that information will be there next time. As long as you have a good idea of how far you hit with each club, you can use the iGolf Neo Pocketsize Golf GPS to make your game much more accurate.

Another feature about the iGolf Neo is its size. It easily slips into your pocket, and weighs only 2.5 ounces. Although they’re very sleek too, the Garmin Approach and Callaway uPro are bigger. This is not to say they’re too big, just bigger. The iGolf comes with a USB cable and all you have to do to download your first course is get online at iGolf’s website. This process is very easy to do. If you want more courses, you’ll have to pay a subscription, but that’s very reasonable.

Currently the iGolf Neo Pocketsize Golf GPS sells for about half of what the Garmin Approach G5 and the Callaway uPro sell for. To learn more just click here.

The Sky Caddie SG5 Golf GPS is one of the most popular, top competitors in the Golf GPS world. Along with the Garmin Arroach and the Callaway uPro, the Sky Caddie SG5 Golf GPS is much, much more than just a rangefinder. It’s like having your own caddie who is intimately familiar with the course.

SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS Range Finder

For one thing the Sky Caddie SG5 Golf GPS can tell you distances from wherever you are on the fairway to the pin. As you approach the green, the Sky Caddie can give you a very accurate bird’s eye view of the green. It also gives you distances along a straight line shot. And distances from where you are to the pin.

With an fairly cheap subscription, you can access data for thousands of courses all from the ease of your computer.

SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS Advanced Engineering

The Sky Caddie is the product of some really advanced engineering. Combining advanced GPS satellite technology with other proprietary technologies, the Sky Caddie is well worth taking a look at, if you’re in the market for a device like this. Don’t just rush out and buy just any Golf GPS. Take a look at the Sky Caddie SG5 before you whip out that credit card. You might decide that you would rather have a Garmin or a Callaway, but still you would know that you’re making an informated decision between the three.
